Milestone
In May 2012, Construction Industry Council (CIC) announced the official name and logo design for the project. The English name “ZCB” was an acronym for Zero Carbon Building and sounded like "sexy bee", which was a symbol of sustainability and easy to remember. The Chinese name “零碳天地” literally meant “Zero Carbon World”. Both names were the winning submissions of a naming competition that attracted more than 1,700 entries. On 26 June 2012, a grand opening ceremony was held with Mr. TSANG Chun-wan, John, the then Financial Secretary and Mr. LEE Shing-see, the then Chairman of CIC as officiating guests. On 5 January 2013, ZCB was opened to the public. To enhance the linkage with the construction industry, ZCB was renamed CIC-Zero Carbon Park in 2019.
April 2011
FROM CONCEPT
In response to the implementation of greenhouse gas reduction measures by the HKSAR Government, the CIC proposed to develop the first zero carbon emissions building in Hong Kong to showcase low carbon building technologies and practices. A feasibility study was conducted in April 2011.
July 2011
TO EVELOPMENT

Amid strong support from the Development Bureau and various Government Works departments, foundation work of the project commenced in July 2011 at Sheung Yuet Road, Kowloon Bay (original location of the Construction Industry Training Ground).

Located at the centre of the site, the Chinese banyan (Ficus microcarpa) are the native trees which have been in existence since the establishment of the Construction Industry Training Ground.

November 2011
Construction work of zero carbon building project commenced.

The Groundbreaking Ceremony was held on 27 November 2011 and officiated by the then Chairman of the CIC, Mr. LEE Shing-see, with the then Permanent Secretary for Development (Works), Mr. WAI Chi-sing, as the Guest of Honour. The naming and logo design competition of the Zero carbon building project rolled out on the same day and attracted more than 1700 entries.

The CIC announced the official English and Chinese name of the project as "Zero Carbon Building" (ZCB) andrespectively in May 2012, literally meaning "Zero Carbon World", whereas the logo featured with three upward facing leaves, with one in green in the middle and two in grey on both sides, symbolizing ZCB to be a leading model and driving innovation among the construction industry.

June 2012
The Zero Carbon Building was officially opened on 26 June 2012 by the then Financial Secretary of the HKSAR Government, Mr. John TSANG Chun-Wah, and the then Secretary for Development of the HKSAR Government, Mrs. Carrie LAM CHENG Yuet-ngor.
January 2013
The Zero Carbon Building was officially opened to the public on 5 January 2013. It aims to promote a low-carbon mentality both locally and internationally while at the same time serving as an exhibition, education and information center to raise the public awareness on green-building design and its importance in environmental protection.
2019

To foster the connection between construction industry and the community, trademark "CIC - Zero Carbon Park" was registered and a wide array of industry-related activities were launched for public participation, including the CIC's annual signature event, "Construction Month", with aims to further promote the low carbon living.

The Kick-off Ceremony of "Construction Month 2019" was officiated by the Permanent Secretary for Development (Works), Ir LAM Sai-hung, the Chairman of CIC, Mr. CHAN Ka-kiu, the Executive Director of the CIC, Ir Albert CHENG Ting-ning and the Chairperson of the ZCB Management Board, Mr. Paul CHONG Kin-lit.

CIC-Zero Carbon Park underwent renovation with several advanced green building technologies introduced to promote low-carbon construction.
July 2022
STEAM Lab Opening
In line with the development of the Education Bureau, CIC-ZCP established the first STEAM Lab in Hong Kong with the theme of the construction industry, aiming to enhance the next generation’s understanding of various professionals in the construction industry from a vivid and interesting perspective and understand the latest developments in the industry. With the diversified STEAM experience to arouse students’ interest in the construction industry, it helps the next generation to make future career plans.

ZCP Outdoor Electric Vehicles Exhibition
CIC-Zero Carbon Park has collaborated with the Electric Vehicle industry to organise the first outdoor exhibition of electric vehicles to support the development of Hong Kong as a low-carbon city.

MiC Play Unit
Designed with MiC in mind, MiC Play Unit adopts multiple pre-fabricated and readymade components which can be assembled and dismantled easily. The same components can be reconfigured depending on the size and shape of all kinds of outdoor play spaces, and are particularly relevant to the context of Hong Kong, including sites for transitional housing. This demonstrative set also integrates green and eco-products which are made to be modular. They are designed for self-cleansing and can remove PM2.5, provide thermal insulation and improve micro-climate. In addition to MiC and environmental considerations, MiC Play Unit also integrates children's play and photographic spot, thereby enhancing its intergenerational potential.

MiC Play Unit 2.0
The design comprises multiple octahedron-shaped interactive modules that offer high flexibility and mobility, allowing for various combinations suitable for different site contexts. The facets of the modules are covered with three types of panels materials– laminated bamboo, coloured polycarbonate, and net, symbolising the diversity of the world. Planters are positioned on top of the modules, showcasing ever-changing natural landscapes with the seasons, and conveying the message of heat reduction and urban biodiversity through urban greenery.
