

The Construction Industry Council- Zero Carbon Park (CIC-ZCP) launched the ZCP Greeen Heroes Award Badges Programme in 2021, aiming to attract and encourage primary and secondary school students to become future leaders in their communities. Through a wide range of decarbonisation activities, including visitsinteractive drama, seminarstalks, guided tours, and green workshops , which coverings diverse “carbon neutrality” themes,. tThese initiatives enhance students’ understanding of the importance of sustainable development and “carbon neutrality”, inspiring them to contribute to protecting the planet.
Over the three years, CIC-ZCP has organised more than 200 accredited activities, which categorised into four themes to promote different aspects of low-carbon living:, including Ggreen Lliving;, Ssustainable Ddevelopment;, Rrecycling, and Eenergy Kknowledge. The membership of ZCP Green Heroes has now exceeded 4,000. At the award ceremony in 2024, Six Green Heroes were honoured “Gold Hero”, which signifying their inspiring achievement offor participatingon in 15 or more activities within the year. CIC-ZCP has invited two Gold Hero awardeerecipients and their parents of Gold Hero to share theirir motivations for joining the programme.
WONG Tsz-hei, now in his third year of joining the ZCP Green Heroes Programme, advanced from Silver Hero to Gold Hero in 2024this year. Mrs. WONG, his mother expressed that the Earth’s resources will be exhausted one day. She appreciateds how the rich variety of the workshop offered,s which teach her kid to reduce waste and embrace recycling in practice. Mrs. Wong praised CIC-ZCP for arranging different workshops thatwhich utilise various materials for upcycling. Her kid has been broadenbroadening his perspective oin recognising the resource’s potential of resources and cherishcherishing the planet’s resources. She also noticed his behavioral changes in her child since joining the programme, such as turning off unused appliances at home and minimising air conditioning use.
Meanwhile, Mr. YU who has been guiding his two sons joiningto join the programme for over a year, aimed to helfor the reason tpo help his children to engage in environmental protection. He valueds the programme’s continuiouty,sness whichfor alloweding his kids to gradually change their habits in daily life. Mr. YU highlighted two particularly memorable activities. The first one was the ZCP Bird-watching Aactivity, where participants could observe various bird species at the park, which fostering their understanding onof biodiversity. The secondother was the Aquatic Ecosystem Micro-Landscape Workshop, where his kids could crafted miniature aqua landscapes to bring and brought back home andto observe. Both brothers achievedearned the Gold Hero Award in the past activity year. Yu Cheuk-man, the elder brother, expressed that he was encouraged to adopt a greener lifestyle through the programme and prefersoption for cycling or walking for short-distance trips from the programme. He especially enjoyed the spring couplet calligraphy workshop during the Lunar New Year, which unleashed boundless creativity and transformed his creations into festive decorations to share festiveholiday joy.
Each year, CIC-ZCP hosts an award ceremony to recognise the efforts of “ZCP Green Heroes” in actively reducing their carbon footprints in their daily life. Looking ahead, CIC-ZCP anticipates honoring more Green Heroes who striveing for Hong Kong’s carbon neutrality in the futureat this year.
